Where is Makarska?

A beach filled with many people laying along the shoreline with many buildings lining the hill in the distance

Makarska Beach

Makarska is the main town on the Makarska Riviera which consists of 3 major towns - Makarska, Baska Voda and Brela.

Makarska itself is a 1 hour 30 minute drive south along the coast from Split.

The nearest airport to Makarska, Croatia is Brac, however this is a small island airport and it’s much easier to fly into Split and drive or take a bus to Makarska.

Is Makarska worth visiting?

Makarska Old Town

Makarska is a sort of hidden gem in Croatia, most tourists visit Split, Dubrovnik or Zagreb. But those who return to Croatia over and over will be more likely to visit Makarska to avoid the bigger tourist crowds in Split and Dubrovnik.

If you have longer in Croatia, like to explore beyond the major attractions or if you’re returning to Croatia and want to visit somewhere new, I highly recommend Makarska.

Makarska Luxury Hotels: Where to stay

Aminess Khalani Beach Hotel

For the best luxury hotel in Makarska, make sure to book your stay at Aminess Khalani Beach Hotel.

Aminess Hotels own a range of properties throughout Croatia, but this Aminess Khalani Beach Resort is the first 5-star hotel in Makarska. It’s also the newest luxury hotel in Makarska, having opened in summer 2022.

The stunning 5-storey vaulted reception space as you walk in is instantly a wow-moment. With beautiful modern interiors which were designed to symbolise the water.

All the staff were so wonderful and willing to help in any way possible. There’s private parking in a garage below the hotel and a valet to help you.

What kind of hotel is the Aminess Khalani Beach Hotel?

The hotel effortlessly combines elegance with ease. Despite its beautiful and ethereal appearance, it’s also a family friendly hotel with a kids pool, kids club, cinema room and daily activities for adults and family to enjoy.

What are the rooms like at Aminess Khalani Beach Hotel?

The size of the rooms really blew me away!

The room itself is huge with a large bed, full desk space which is really handy and so rare in hotels!

The bathroom was large with a walk-in shower and bathroom soaps, shampoos, sewing kit, hair dryer all available.

The star of the show was a large balcony overlooking the pool and the sea - really a spectacular view at any time of day but sunset there was my favourite.

What’s the food like at Aminess Khalani Beach Hotel?

The food might be our favourite part of our stay - the buffet style dining was spectacular and I’ve never stayed anywhere with so much choice.

From traditional and locally sourced ingredients and meals, to Mediterranean, Greek, Turkish, Italian, Asian and more, there was food from everywhere!

The presentation of the food was gorgeous too, with stunning displays of charcuterie boards, desserts and snacks.

Breakfast included full cooked options, continental choices, yoghourts, fruit, fresh pastries, health smoothies and you could even get your own honey from the honeycomb!

What else does the hotel offer?

A large outdoor pool area with many white umbrellas, lounge chairs and a large blue pool. In the distance is the blue sea and a white beach

There’s a large indoor gym and indoor pool for adult use only.

There’s also regular live music and performances in the evenings (see the schedule in reception for what’s on) as well as fitness and lifestyle events such as yoga and pilates or dance workshops and discos in the evening.

The stunning beachfront location means you can choose between pool or beach, both are just steps away and the beach in front of the hotel is home to the famous Buba Beach Bar - a must visit for cooling off in the day or a sundowner.

From the beach you also have access to water sports like jet skis, pedalos, paddleboarding or the fun inflatables towed on the back of a boat!

My other favourite feature was the swim up bar in the pool. I’ve never experienced one before and it was a real treat- just charge your order to your room.

Even though it’s a hotel that allows kids, the area isn’t loud, overwhelming, too ‘young’ or pretentious. The neutral sun parasols, chic décor, pool bar and incredible views all add to the luxury feeling and make it the best option for luxury beachfront hotels in Makarska.

Where is the Aminess Khalani Beach Hotel located?

Located around 15 minutes walk from the centre of old town Makarska, it’s an easy walk along the paved promenade which offers bars, restaurants, cafes and stores and is a beautiful place to take a sunset walk before dinner along the water.

Being located a short way from the town not only allows the hotel direct beach access but also adds to the exclusive feel.

The promenade is on the doorstep of the hotel, between the hotel and the beach so it’s easy to reach. A walk along the thriving promenade is part of the experience during your stay!
